'O Projeto Quixote não é só uma ong, mas sim um coração de mãe.'
'Tem aqui no Quixote, a nossa oportunidade: de estudar, de crescer, de ter um trabalho.'
Nunca me senti tão bem num lugar como aqui, vocês gostam da gente de verdade, se preocupam com a gente

LESSONS LEARNED

Regular reflection on Projeto Quixote's research and experience contributes to the development of new knowledge, which is disseminated through courses and consultations, and which always seeks to contribute to the development of public policy and the construction of a more just and more humane society.

Trust some of our lessons learned:

"Children prefer flying kites over smoking rocks"
When they are offered attractive, viable alternatives, it becomes possible for them to interrupt the use of crack rocks and other drugs.

"We cannot medicalize what is a social matter"
The use of drugs among street children and youth is a question which involves a range of factors, including beyond drugs and the individual, the social and familial environment of which they are part. In this form, the treatment proposed cannot be limited to clinical context.

"The choice between a weapon and a spray can is a matter of opportunity."
We need to offer youth at high risk, the choice among creative alternatives to a life of crime which enables the possibility for inclusion and earning an income.

"There is no such thing as street boys and girls, so to speak, only those who are transitorily on the streets."
In large urban centers, children and adolescents find in the streets, an alternative social network to the difficult reality they live, without necessarily cutting ties with their families or school.

"From knitting to crochet, a web must be woven."
Work as part of a network, brings together social, governmental and corporate entities cannot be linear as knitting, but rather round like crochet, agregando as potencialidades e estruturando um diálogo promotor de mudança.

"We must always seek to unite the ethic and the esthetic"
As said by Paulo Freire, decency and beauty must always go hand in hand. We do not believe in being a project for the poor by the poor, but rather in doing the best we can, always seeking to construct a more just society.
